Mesenchymal stem cells in cats have therapeutic potential for immune-related, inflammatory, and degenerative diseases. So far mesenchymal stem cells have been used with success in treating asthma, gingivostomatitis, kidney diseases, and enteropathies.

In dogs, stem cells have been used for bone, joints, tendons, and ligaments. Eventually, UC Davis Professor of veterinary medicine, Sean Ownes says, they will be useful for lupus and diabetes.
